A conglomeration of memories, drawings, photographs, newspapers and dreams have brought about the ideas for these images. My experience with drawing, etching, woodcuts and sculpture have contributed greatly to both the technical aspect of the work as well as the concept. The fascinating lives of artists, contemporary and long gone, known and unknown, their work found in books, museums, churches and libraries, absolutely endless inspiration and lessons there. When a painting is underway, it seemingly takes on a life of it’s own, brush stroke follows brush stroke, and the choice of color seem easily apparent. I don’t know who said this, but it has been my experience also, that, “the paintings paint themselves”.

Below are examples of images I’ve used for work in this site.

“Finishing a painting demands a heart of steel; everything requires a decision, and if I find difficulties where I least expect them … It is at such moments that one fully realizes one’s own weaknesses and how many incomplete, or impossible to complete, parts comprise what man calls a finished or completed work.”

— Delacroix
